That was a fun weekend of softball! Although the results weren’t exactly what we were hoping for, I thought the girls did an outstanding job! I’m convinced we were two outs away in each of our losses from having a different outcome in those games. The flip side of that is score just a few more runs for the desired result Either way, we were in both games we lost to the end. We competed with teams that were older than us, and we gave them all they could handle. We played Orange Crush soft…ball without concerning ourselves with who, how big, or where the other team was from. We played who was in front of us every game and played well.
I’m extremely proud of our team. We had a couple of miscues in the field, and we hung together. We had a couple of tough innings at bat, and we hung together. We lost a couple of games and we hung together. We were a team, and we hung together. That is what my vision of travelling softball was from the beginning. No one player was bigger than the team. We won as a team, and we lost as a team. I believe we improved as players, but more importantly as teammates. That’s what makes this group of girls special. It was so cool to see so many of the girls in orange stay and watch (cheer for) the team that just knocked us out of the tournament. I had three people ask me when our next game was. They were all surprised to hear that we were done, and that we still had over half the team sitting together watching the next game. That’s what sportsmanship is all about.
Once again, I was wrapped up in building up our girls after the last game and didn’t recognize the coaches. Coach Tim and Coach Mike were outstanding. They kept the girls organized and motivated. They pushed when needed, encouraged consistently, and consoled when called for. Those two guys have been outstanding, and I appreciate all they do for our team.
Next I want to thank you parents. It was so awesome to hear you on the sidelines doing our cheers! I’ve never heard that before from parents in any of the sports I’ve coached. Usually there is some cheering when good things happen and some encouragement when things aren’t going our way, but I’ve never heard parents do the cheers that the girls are doing on the bench. I thought that was so cool, and I believe our girls did too. It shows you’re into the game, you care about what’s going on, and you’re supporting what we do. You’re setting a wonderful example for your girls. I believe you are also a huge part of what makes this team so special. It was awesome to see all the fans on the Orange Crush sideline. You were lined up well into right field in our last game. Parents, siblings, grandparents and friends came out to support us. That was humbling, and we appreciate each and every one of you who was there to support us! Please feel free to pass this on to those who were there, and at the very least, extend our gratitude as a team.
