2013 Season End Tournament Has Two Thrilling Championship Games

The 2013 Floyd Kalberg Season End Tournament concluded Sunday afternoon with two great championship games. Both the Junior and Senior Leagues crowned tournament champs at Lions Park in Golden Valley in front of enthusiastic crowds.

In the Junior League, Summer Sluggers followed their Midseason Tournament championship by claiming the Kalberg tourney as well. They edged their rival Treecology (the Junior League regular season champs) 8-6. It was a back and forth battle between two good teams with the Sluggers prevailing at the end. Summer Sluggers made it through the tourament unbeaten. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought tournament!

In the Senior League, McDonald's Golden Valley held off a furious rally from Doolittle's Woodfire Grill to win in extra innings. McDonald's got off to a fast 9-0 lead in the championship game after two innings. Undaunted, Doolittles chipped away at the lead and found themselves only down 14-11 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Doolittles quickly tied the score with a three run homer smashed up the middle to send the game into extra innings. But in the top of the 8th inning McDonald's got a couple runners on base and rallied to score three runs to take a 17-14 lead. They held off Doolittle's in the bottom of the 8th to claim the Kalberg crown.

It was a sweet victory for McDonald's who were runners up in the Midseason tournament in June. Kudos also to Doolittle's who lost their second game to go on a remarkable run to get to the title game.
