COVID-19 Impact on GVGS 2020 Schedule - 3/26/20 Update

As much as we had hoped that we could begin the 2020 season on schedule, it is now clear that will not be possible.  But, the season is still ON!   Just delayed.

Here is the current plan and revised schedule for the 2020 season:

Registration: Registration will be extended and remain open through May 10.  The registration fee will remain $120 per player, but there will not be a price increase for those who register later in the process.  Registrations received after May 10 will be placed on a waiting list.  It is hoped that all post-May 10 registrants will be placed on a team, but that is dependent upon having enough coaches.

If a parent has lost a job due to COVID-19, we want to help.  Your child(ren) will automatically receive a 50% discount on the registration fee - just fill out the financial aid application at the bottom of the registration page and e-mail it to our League President, Lenny Segal.

Evaluations: Will be held on Saturday, May 16, at Lions Park.  This was supposed to be opening day, so hopefully everyone has it blocked off on their calendars.   One advantage is that we will be able to have evaluations OUTSIDE!  If it rains, evaluations will be on Sunday, May 17, which was our backup for opening  day.

Practices: Will begin approximately one week after evaluations, so Memorial Day weekend or just after that weekend.

Games: Will begin the week of June 8.

Mid-Season Tournament: Will still be June 19-21.  We may change it from a tournament into part of the regular season, but that decision will be made at a later date.

End of Season Tournament: Will still be July 17-19.

What if the season gets canceled?  That is not something any of us want and remains an absolute last resort!  That said, if guidance from the CDC and public health authorities makes it clear that cancellation is necessary, you will receive a full refund of your 2020 registration fee or you can apply your fee towards the 2021 season.

Cleanliness Precautions: We will be taking all recommended precautions at evaluations, practices and games that are in effect at the time of each event.  In the end, we want our players, umpires, families and fans to be safe and to be able to enjoy softball.

We hopes this helps you plan and gives you something to look forward to this summer.  Thank you so much for your support of GVGS.  We cannot wait to get back on the field with our GVGS families!

We will communicate with parents/registrants via e-mail.  Please place Golden Valley Girls Softball on your "safe senders" list and check your junk and spam folders to make sure you don't miss any communications from GVGS.  These emails will be sent from

Welcome to Golden Valley Girls Softball!

Golden Valley Girls Softball was founded in 1973 and held its first season in 1974. Its purpose is to teach girls the fundamentals of softball, to instill the ideals of good sportsmanship, to promote physical and mental development, and to promote good character and citizenship.

The season starts with a skills assessment followed by the coaches’ draft to even the competitive nature of teams (Approximately 12-13 girls per team). The girls play about 16-18 regular season games, usually two per week. There also are two weekend tournaments – mid-season and season-ending finale. These are really fun, family weekends! GVGS is a successful 45-year-old league staffed by volunteer moms and dads.

GVGS is for girls interested in a fun, slowpitch softball experience. The league's Junior Division is for girls who are currently in 3rd - 6th grades and the Senior Division is for 7th - 12th graders. The season begins in mid-May (practices start in late April) and ends in  late-July, with each team playing 16-18 games (usually two per week) and two weekend tournaments.

GVGS has been a premier softball league for over 45 years, having been founded in 1973.  Our success is based on a philosophy of "the game is for the girls" and a focus on skills, fundamentals and fun. GVGS is recognized as one of the finest slow-pitch leagues in Minnesota.

All games and league tournaments are played in Golden Valley in partnership with the Golden Valley Parks and Rec, however we welcome girls from ALL COMMUNITIES and we have players from many different cities and schools districts, public and private. All participants receive a uniform T-shirt and all girls play in each game.  All girls play, regardless of skill level or past experience.
